Prevention and screening

Preventive Care & Screenings

Screening and counseling that catch problems while they are still easy to treat, at our clinic in Kendall. What you are screened for is decided by your age, your history and your risk, not by a fixed checklist.

We care for adults 19 and older

What is included

What this care covers

Screening is only useful when it is aimed at what you are actually at risk for.

  • Screening guidance based on your age, history and risk rather than a fixed panel
  • Cardiovascular risk assessment, including cholesterol and blood pressure
  • Diabetes and prediabetes screening for adults with risk factors
  • Men's health, including testosterone evaluation and treatment
  • Women's health and well-woman exams
  • PrEP for HIV prevention, and confidential STI testing
  • Smoking cessation counseling, and a plan you can actually follow
  • Results explained in plain language, in English or Spanish, with what to do next

Why your screening list is not the same as everyone else's

An annual physical and preventive screening are not the same thing, and people often expect the first to include the second. The physical is the examination. Screening is the separate set of decisions about which tests are actually worth running on you. Both can happen at the same visit without being the same work.

What belongs on your list comes from your age, what runs in your family, what you have already been treated for, and what you do for a living. Two adults born the same year can need very different tests. Screening everyone for everything sounds thorough and is not: it produces false alarms, follow-up procedures nobody needed, and a bill for all of it.

The practical version: come in, tell us your history honestly, and you leave knowing which tests you actually need and when the next one is due.

How it works

How your visit works here

From booking to knowing what your results mean.

  1. Book your visit

Book online or call the clinic. If you are coming for a specific screening, tell us which one so we can allow the time it needs.

  2. Your risk reviewed

Your age, your personal and family history, and what you do for work. This is what decides which screenings are worth doing.

  3. Testing done here

Blood work, urinalysis and EKG are done in the clinic. Anything needing imaging is referred, and we tell you where and why.

  4. What happens next

Results explained in plain language, with a clear next step and a date to come back if one is needed.

Before you book

Questions patients ask

  • What screenings do I actually need?

It depends on your age, your history and your risk. There is no single list that fits every adult, which is why the visit starts with your history rather than with a panel of tests.

  • What is PrEP?

PrEP is a prescription medication taken to prevent HIV infection. It requires blood work before you start and follow-up testing while you take it. Ask us and we will explain how it works and whether it fits your situation.

  • Is STI testing confidential?

Yes. Your visit and your results are part of your medical record and are handled with the same privacy as everything else in it.

  • What does a well-woman exam include?

A physical exam, a review of your history and your medications, and the screenings appropriate to your age. Call us at 786-536-2414 if you want to know what to expect before you book.

  • Do I need to fast for my blood work?

For some panels, yes. Tell us what you are coming in for and we will tell you when to stop eating, so you do not make the trip twice.

  • Do you see children?

No. We care for adults 19 and older. If you need a provider for someone younger, call us and we will point you to a pediatric practice in the area.
